ENROLMENTS...
There are two categories of enrolment, Preference and Non Preference:
Preference enrolment is granted by the Parish Priest. (Criteria for Preference status includes:
- The child is a baptised Catholic
- All other children in the family are baptised Catholic
- One or both parents are baptised Catholic
- A significant other is a baptised Catholic (eg Grandparent / God parent)
- Either parent is participating in the RCIA programme
It is therefore necessary to make an appointment with Fr Jospeh Akkara or Fr Graeme Alexander at the earliest convenient time. There telephone number is 855-6214 if your child has not been baptised at St. Joseph's you will need to take a copy of their Baptismal Certificate. Once the Parish Priest has issued you a Preference Card you need to bring it to the school office, and we retain this for our records.
There are two forms to complete: an enrolment form for St. Joseph's Catholic School, Fairfield and an Enrolment Contract with the Proprietor of the school, the Bishop of Hamilton.
The Enrolment Contract needs to be signed by both parents or legal guardians, and because of its nature, the signatures need to be witnessed. This can be done at school. The Principal will go through the Enrolment Contract with you and clarify any matters.
N.B. A Preference Enrolment Card is needed for each child.
At the completion of Year 8, children need a new Preference Enrolment Card to be enrolled in our Catholic Colleges.
Non Preference Enrolmentis limited to 5% of children on the school roll and is the responsibility of the Principal.
All children starting for the first time; i.e. a New Entrant, need to have the following documents: - Birth Certificate, Immunisation Record Card and Preference Enrolment Card.
If the child was not born in New Zealand evidence of New Zealand residency, which is in the child's or parent's Passport is required. If only on a work permit then we require a copy of this permit, together with a copy of the child's student visa.
We appreciate enrolment well in advance of the child starting school as this allows for forward planning.
