CLASSIFICATION OF CHILDREN...
On entry to school children are grouped according to their time in school and date of birth. There are some children that fall either side by a short period of our cut off dates and it is for this group that classification is discussed with parents before decisions are made.
Children are classified by their year group. This classification is used by staff and the Ministry of Education for funding purposes. Here at St Joseph's we believe children should receive a firm foundation of junior school teaching to allow for true success in their senior years.
Children arriving at school in term one of the school year are classified as Year 1. Those arriving from Term 2 onwards are classified as Year 0 and then become Year 1 the following year. Time in the junior school will then vary from child to child according to their date of birth. This could be from two years to two years and three terms. Children at St Joseph's receive education from Year 0 through to Year 8 (including their intermediate years.)
